Unc
“Unc” is short for “uncle” — playful slang for someone acting old or out of touch. Reaching “unc status” means you’ve officially become the older guy in the room.
Where it came from
“Unc” has been an affectionate AAVE shortening of “uncle” for years — a term for an older man in the community, often warm. Online it sharpened into a tease: if you groan getting off the sofa, don’t know a trend, or wear the wrong jeans, that’s unc status.
The related insults
Google reported a 2026 spike in searches for “chopped unc” — combining chopped (unattractive) with unc (old). It’s teasing, and like most of this vocabulary, usually aimed at friends rather than strangers.
How it's used
“Unc really said ‘on fleek’.” “I’m in bed at 9pm, full unc status.” Plenty of people cheerfully self-identify as unc.
