Glow Up
A “glow up” is a dramatic transformation for the better — usually in appearance, but also in confidence, style, or life overall. “She had a serious glow up over the summer.”
Where it came from
The phrase spread through hip-hop and social media in the 2010s (Chief Keef’s “Glo Up” is often cited), then exploded as a before-and-after content format: the awkward photo, then the confident one.
The healthy version
At its best, glow-up culture is about growth — confidence, health, style, self-respect. At its worst it collapses into pure appearance-ranking, the same swamp as looksmaxxing. The distinction worth teaching: a glow up you choose for yourself is different from one you feel forced into by comparison.
