Glazing
Glazing means praising someone excessively — hyping them up so much it feels fake, biased or cringe. “Stop glazing” is a playful way to tell someone their compliments are way too much.
Where glazing came from
The slang sense of glazing rose on gaming platforms, TikTok and X around 2022–2023, originally as a non-romantic alternative to “simping” — a way to call out over-the-top hype for streamers, celebrities and athletes. Merriam-Webster notes it usually carries “a note of disapproval.” The image is a glazed donut: a thin, sugary coating of praise.
What it means and how it's used
Typical use: “bro said that streamer is the best alive — that’s pure glazing,” or simply “stop glazing” when a friend overpraises someone. It’s usually light teasing, though context matters — repeatedly mocking someone for being kind or enthusiastic can tip into something meaner.
