Mogging

Mogging means visibly outshining or dominating someone — usually in looks, sometimes in status — so that you make them look lesser by comparison. It comes from ‘looksmaxxing’ subculture and, among Gen Alpha, is now mostly used as an ironic joke.

Where mogging came from

Mogging traces to “AMOG” (‘alpha male of the group’) and the online looksmaxxing / manosphere communities focused on ranking physical attractiveness. “To mog” someone meant to out-compete them on looks. From there it spread into wider meme culture.

What it means and how it's used

In practice, someone “mogs” another person by standing next to them looking notably better, taller or more confident. Today most Gen Alpha use is ironic — jokingly “mogging” a friend in a photo. It travels with terms like mewing, sigma and looksmaxxing.

Context worth knowing: the term’s roots are in appearance-ranking subcultures that can promote unhealthy comparison. Most casual use is a joke, but it’s worth being aware of where it comes from. We note this plainly.
