Delulu
Delulu is playful slang short for “delusional” — holding hopeful, unrealistic beliefs, usually about romance or big aspirations. It’s most often affectionate or self-deprecating, as in the catchphrase “delulu is the solulu” (delusion is the solution).
Where delulu came from
Delulu is a clipped, reduplicated form of “delusional.” It’s widely traced to K-pop fan communities in the mid-2010s, where it described fans with unrealistic beliefs about their favorite idols. From there it spread through TikTok into mainstream Gen Z and Gen Alpha slang.
What it means and how it's used
Calling someone “delulu” means they’re being unrealistic — but the tone is usually light and affectionate rather than harsh. It often carries a manifestation flavour: “stay delulu” can mean keep believing in an outcome against the odds. Example: “She thinks that video will go viral — she’s delulu.”
Is delulu still relevant?
Delulu has broken out of fandom into everyday use and even mainstream dictionary conversations, making it one of the more durable Gen Z coinages — though, like all slang, it’s used most naturally among friends.
